PRESS RELEASE
Dar es Salaam, 2nd May, 2012: Chemi & Cotex industries Ltd, the makers of Whitedent toothpaste and other Oral care products are happy to announce the launch of the Whitedent school squiz 2012.
The last whitedent school squiz was held on 2008. We have restarted this exercise after a gap of three years. The first edition of the school squiz held in 2007 was open to all the primary schools in the Dar es salaam region. The school squiz this year will be held across the maintowns in Tanzania namely Arusha, Mbeya, Mwanza and Mbeya  with the paticipation of primary schools. A total of 4,000 questions are being prepared  for the complete quiz. A team of professional teachers are assigned the duty of preparing these questions for varying subjects based on the primary school educational syllabus.
The detailed format of the Quiz was presented to the Ministry of Education and after due approval from them, a total of 240 schools were invited based on the school’s performance in last year’s Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE); requesting them to nominate a team of 4 members to participate in the Quiz.
A total of 162 schools confirmed their participation and sent their teams. The competition involves standard 6 students of the average age of 12 to 13, including the fact that they had to mix both genders, so that at the challenge both were present.
The first stage was a knock-out system taking place in each of the four regions. For each region one of the invited schools was allocated as the regional centre where the preliminary knock-out round for that region took place. It was a one day event in which five schools competed at a time, being asked to questions based on various subjects including Languages, Mathematics, Science and Social studies. The entire process was open and transparent with all participating schools briefed about the process well in advance.
Six (6) winning schools from each region will now advance to the Quarter Finals which will be based in Dar es Salaam.  In the quarter final stage, the 24 Schools are divided into 6 groups of 4 schools each. The grouping was done on the basis of marks secured in the first stage. The winners of each group, i.e. a total of 6 teams will proceed to the semi finals.
The 6 semi-finalists are divided into two groups of three teams each. The winner of each group, i.e. two teams proceed to the Grand final, where an overall winner will emerge. The 9 quiz sessions comprising of 6 quarter finals, 2 semi-final an the Grand Final will be shot live and will be shown on television for the viewing public.
In order to interact with higher no of schools we are also bringing a SMS campaign by which Presenter asks a special question( for schools only)  during the school quiz programme  on  TV and which will be again mentioned in radio and advise people how to answer through SMS. The campaign will be advertised in the TV edition asking people to listen to the Radio show and help their schools of choice win prizes of water storage poly tanks (3000 ltrs).  People text in answers for a chance to win weekly prize.
The system will select 3 weekly winners. For every individual winner, there is a school that will win a prize (the winner gets to choose a school of their choice) this contest will go on for 9 weeks coinciding with the TV and radio release.
Since 2003 Chemi & Cotex industries Ltd have conducted education programmes on Oral Hygiene in over 1000 schools in Tanzania. Free dental check ups, sampling in schools are some off the activities being regularly undertaken  by the company to educate and create awareness on Oralcare . The whitedent school squiz  programme is a further extension of these efforts.
The added highlight of the programme is apart from it being telecast in the ITV in nine episodes, we will also be airing it in Radio One to reach more segments of the people.
