Kenneth Wright, 82, fled the UK after he was convicted of sex offences. He will be brought back to begin an eight-year prison sentence
A British pensioner who went on the run after he was convicted of sexually abusing a young girl has been arrested in Spain.
82-year-old Kenneth Wright was detained on a European arrest warrant after being traced to an address in the Costa del Sol.
Wright, of Holton-le-Clay, Lincolnshire, will now be sent back to Britain to start an eight-year prison sentence.
The
pensioner was convicted in March of two charges of sexually assaulting a
girl under the age of 13 and two of sexual activity with a child
following a trial at Nottingham Crown Court.
The case
was adjourned for sentencing and Wright granted bail, but the pensioner
fled to Spain and a European Arrest Warrant was issued for him on June
8.
In his absence, Wright was sentenced to eight
years in jail and ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of
his life on June 28.
Nearly two months later, on
August 25, Lincolnshire Police were informed that Wright had been
arrested by Spanish authorities and was in custody.
He will now be extradited to begin his prison sentence.
